When to go and how long to stay
April–June and September–October are ideal: warm enough to swim, cool enough to climb the Acropolis. July and August are very hot, so plan sightseeing for early morning and evening. Three full days cover the city; add a day or two for Cape Sounion, Delphi or an island.
Book the big sights early
The Acropolis runs on timed tickets, and the early slots go first — exactly the ones you want before the heat. Agree on a time together, have one person book, and save the tickets in the trip so everyone can find them at the gate. Ferries to the islands also fill up in summer, so book seats for the whole group in advance.
Where to stay as a group
Plaka, Koukaki and Monastiraki keep the Acropolis and most sights within walking distance, and the metro connects straight to the airport and the port of Piraeus. For four or more people an apartment is usually easier than several hotel rooms — many have balconies or rooftops for a shared evening drink.
Group tips
- Start early, rest in the afternoon: see the ruins before 11:00, then retreat to a museum, a long lunch or the hotel.
- Greek meals are made for sharing — order several plates for the table, and book ahead for groups of six or more.
- Log shared costs as you go (tickets, taxis, ferries, dinners) so settling up at the end takes minutes, not an argument.
