When to go and how long to stay
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the most comfortable for walking; July and August are hot and crowded. Three full days cover the classic sights at a relaxed pace; four or five leave room for a day trip.
Book the big sights early
The Colosseum and the Vatican Museums sell timed tickets that often run out for groups. Decide early which slots the group wants, have one person book, and record the tickets in the trip so everyone can find them at the gate.
Where to stay as a group
Neighbourhoods like Monti, Trastevere and the area around Campo de' Fiori keep most sights within walking distance. For four or more people, an apartment is often simpler than several hotel rooms — and a shared kitchen helps with breakfasts.
Group tips
- Split up for an afternoon: not everyone wants three hours in a museum. Plan two parallel options and meet for dinner.
- Many restaurants are small — book ahead for groups of six or more.
- Log shared costs as you go (tickets, dinners, taxis) so nobody has to reconstruct them at the airport.
